Creating Constructivist Classrooms

How do we put our learners in charge of their own learning? How do I quiet my teacher voice as learners become teachers and teachers become learners?

Teaching Themselves Is True Learning!

This quote is taken from a wonderful Blogger David Warlick and is a reflection on making sure that all learners are given an equal chance to learn by teaching themselves...

  • I’d just gotten through talking about the challenge and opportunities of preparing children for a future we can not describe. And here are kids who are engaged in learning about their past. I asked, “What are your students learning in this process?”

Improving Lessons - Next Step Lessons

I have trouble with the term improving lessons. Sounds like there is something wrong with the lesson. After I collect student work, or observations, I review the work, lookng for strenthgs, and then areas that need improvement. Across the class then I make desicisons for next step in teaching points. Will this be needed for whole class or small group or individual. The decisons are made through review and reflective questionsing. Then I develop the support or scaffolding needed to lead my stu…

Carole,
Blogging was a playtime for our class this year. I too have a sense that it is important to bringing our kiddos into those 21st century skills but the tools are somewhat ancient that we can use to do blogging. And I agree with yo the time it takes to do a BLOG in the classroom what do you set aside, give up or change/adapt in your room to do it. Those are questions that run through my head all the time. I primarly used BLOGS for a reflection piece in the classroom. There are a couple of us that are using BLOGMISTER...
You can go to mine http://classblogmeister.com/blog.php?blogger_id=61490&mode=login
login in as me Mrs. Hinshaw pwd: bulldog and look around if you want.
You go to http://classblogmeister.com/index.php to get a classroom register account. You have to email David Warlick and he will send you a register number. Also Elise Mueller got me set up and I think she has the register number also. If you are interested in setting up your own.
We will post here on the E2T2 site a daily training update.
More soon

Hey Carolyn, Please let me know how training goes, as I think yours is before ours here in Renton. It's nice to know others don't keep those links active either in the summer. But it is cool that some of your students keep blogging. I'd like to add that to my site, but just didn't have time to last year. Or even know where to start with a host for that an all. Hope you're home project is nearing the final stages.

Hi Carolyn,
I've been happy with it. It's average I guess. The projects I've used it for so far have turned out fine.

Hi Carolyn,

That's cool that you went to Broadview. It was a junior high at one point. I'm looking forward to chating with others about this grant and what everyone will be/are doing. Did you already take the classes since you live north in Bellingham or will you come to Renton? I looked at your webpage and I think it used to be linked to Roberta's page in Seattle as a good website example. I like the things you've included. I unlinked my subject areas during the summer...cause I'm too lazy to update them right now.

Elise,
I believe the grant reads that all teachers must have the minumum standard equipment:
a standards-based computer with MS Office software,
projection device
document camera – grantees must buy these items first with Enhanced Peer Coaching program funds.
So as I read this the means no tablet until the document camera.
They are running about $500 for a good one.
I asked Ann if she could set up a meeting with Sean at Troxel. He is the one we buy the document cameras from. I really think that especially if you do science you need a nice zoom and then of course anything else you reall yneed full page view... not partial.
Maybe we can check them out at NECC.

Hey Carolyn,
Are you going to order a document camera? If so what model are you planning to buy? We have some $ left after tablet and projector, but not a whole lot. Wondering if we could afford a document camera or two....
