Reflections

What is the first thing you think of when I say coaching?
Overcoming previous notions of extra work. This week was helpful to change.
Collaboration and helping someone else achieve something else.
Sharing and achieving.
Team work.
Natural fit with my technology leadership job.
Learning partnership
Helping someone else acheive what they want to acheive

What will be the first thing you do when you get back to your building for coaching?
Devel… Continue

E2T2 Day 5

Well,
After yesterday afternoon I was a little nervous about coming back to work with the coaching curriculum. I was awake at night thinking about the disparate groups that are working together. One school district has invested heavily in equipment with no investment in coaching. Our district on the other hand has spent heavily over the last decade to develop a district wide coaching model.

So we had a group of experienced coaches working through beginning coaching materials for 5… Continue

E2T2 Day 4

I left today feeling sad. Sad for Jen who worked so hard. Sad for Carolyn who felt left out. Sad in general that there was so much unmet potential in the room. And finally sad that I could not contribute to a solution. This evening as I was catching up on my reading I came across a posting by a favorite blogger of mine, Miguel Guhlin, about a "Creative Shovel." The mandated, prescriptive coaching curriculum is a shovel… Continue

Day 3

Can really only count the morning, not the entire day as I had to travel down to Seattle to meet my two teenagers who were returning from a trip to Chicago. We spent the morning looking at the facets of a quality lesson. I got to thinking about my internet safety lessons, which are in the forefront at the beginning of the school year. They are probably the oldest "old school" lessons I have. I am up front, a fountain of knowledge overflowing with tips and tricks on how kids can be safe Internet… Continue

Hi Carole!
Yes I did Simpsonize myself, silly I suppose, but fun! Check out the site www.simpsonizeme.com it is really easy to change your look and there are tons of choices. We are training this week. We haven't talked much at all about hardware or what other teachers are doing. The training is focused on peer coaching. I bookmarked the documents we are reading in my delicious account http://del.icio.us/forelise2 Bellingham has been using the coaching model for over a decade now so some of the work is familiar to me. I truly enjoy working with teachers from across the state, opportunities like this are so rare. You will need a laptop and I recommend bringing chocolate...it makes conversations much sweeter. :) Let me know how your training goes, post an article!

Hey again Elise,
I am guessing that some of you have already had some training. The Renton (Seattle) site isn't until next Week (August 7 & 9). Are your discussion threads about topics you covered? Thanks.

Ok, I watched the Photostory download and it was over 13MB! Watch the IT guys go balistic in less time than it takes to watch one of the digital stories :) Hmmm. I really like the voice addition to Photostory. Now I have to try voice thread. It may turn out to be very workable. Privacy springs to mind. Will try to get to this before the workshops. Be careful with my GIGANTIC day. :)
